Do You See What I See?

Mobile Device on a Hike... taking close up photographs of rock art during hike in northern Arizona. South facing basalt escarpments often contain prehistoric treasure. For me this is easier than the days when I used to carry tripods, lenses, and a huge camera. Now, its my lightweight backpack, lunch and my digital mobile devices. GPS and camera all working simultaneously. Even the photo's metadata is useful, and all automatic. Another personal benefit for me... the photo apps that I use for editing my photos are installed in both my smartphone and on my Note Tablet. I can sit under the shade of a tree and do work. Ha!  Photo share from Rascal's Perch

Prehistoric BLOG? The work of one person? Many authors over time. Questions? Style is fairly consistent. This panel is just one from a larger gallery just discovered. Insert is from my site topo map using a satellite image. Lots of identifiable images in this composition. I placed my digital tablet and backpack down in the shade here and enjoyed my lunch in contemplation, my mind filled with subjectivity. Photo share from Rascal's Perch

I'm sharing a photo of a broken petroglyph and the question arises, "spalling or vandal?" For me this is a particularly powerful glyph image depiction that I have seen in other locations. The damage is irreversible. Of note: this panel is located in front of and at the base of a volcanic cavate that was filled with winter sunshine at this moment. Obviously a prehistoric shelter! Using our mobile digital devices in the field for science.

Installing a GPS antenna, a sketchpad, a camera, spreadsheets and more inside of our smartphones and digital tablets has changed everything. I now use my tablet as a "live" topo map, marking my discoveries, keeping notes and site sketches, and photography. I use my smartphone as a dedicated GPS unit with various full color map backgrounds, and also as a camera and phone. Its an incredible set of tools. I also use my tablet and several installed apps to edit my photos and compose my internet publishings. I synchronize it all in the "cloud" so my work is always up to date on all of my devices including my desktop computer. It is only natural, then, that I post here some of my BLOG photos as this is indeed another example of using mobile devices in our livelihoods. Enjoy.
