Do You See What I See?

What Is the Moral of the Two-Headed Snake?

How many "choices" do you see depicted in the glyph panel? I'd love to have the translated audio book that comes with this presentation. Remarkable! Another Deadman treasure.

Image of anthro figure and "ripple" line, carved adjacent to spillway of a seasonal waterfall. One of my favorites. Part of a large petroglyph gallery on box canyon.

ANTIQUITY...

I may have viewed a million pottery sherds in my lifetime, but there is something about this latest one that seems to represent them all. Such a perfect composition of organic and the prehistoric in color and texture, the ceramic piece still lying right where someone tossed it a long time ago. It is true that this observation occurred in the vicinity of a very large multi-room pueblo ruin, probably occupied around the year 1200 for a very long time.

Hiking and biking with digital mobile devices as I do leads to these rare moments in the field. Life is a banquet around here in what I call paradise. My phones are also my dedicated GPS devices.

Superimposition of multiple images... I had to climb down inside a large stone grotto to even observe this complicated panel. I offer no attempt at interpreting all of this but it is open to a lot of possibilities.   :-)

This photo is of a recently discovered petroglyph panel of images that are large and pecked along the ground line. In fact, one must pull the grass out of the way in order to see them clearly. When this happens it always raises the question, "Where was the ground level at the time of doing them? This may be one of those mystery walls.  :-)

What I do when I'm not hiking or composing pages for this web site:

Everything I see when outdoors is my inspiration. Be it prehistoric ceramics, ancient rock art, native plants, wildlife or the weather... I photograph it, I paint it, I draw it... I publish. I have made my living this way all of my life.

Last year I recorded several outstanding abstract images on pieces of prehistoric pottery that I observed near ancient sites, lying on the ground. I've interpreted these designs into various gift items with these imprints. You can learn more on my Zazzle Store in the category Ancient People

My other gift shops are there as well. Enjoy.

"Don't Hate Me Because I'm Dormant"

These native plants grow everywhere in the Southwest forming plumes of bright yellow during the summer to become this dried flower wheat color in winter. To my eye they are just as beautiful in winter. Take a close look, their anatomy remains intact and, along with their cousin Rabbitbrush look dramatic against the black volcanic sand where you often see them.

I did some research on their common names and found these explanations: If you crush the stem it smells like paint thinner, hence... Turpentine Bush. And, I found an anecdotal report that Native Americans claim that if you are bitten by a snake and quickly chew pieces of this plant, mixing the juice with your saliva and spit it on the bite you will be immune from any poison. (This remains an untested report)

At any rate, during the winter months with low horizon sunlight I find all of these dormant plants great subjects for outdoor photography. Photo share from Rascal's Perch.
