Mule Deer Footprint. After yesterday’s rain there are no fresh footprints on my morning day hike except mine and this adult mule deer I seem to be following. Imprint is surrounded by young plant sprouts confirming that Spring is alive and well in the forest. A banquet of life. My themes in this project: Prehistory and Natural History. “I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” John Burroughs 1837 - 1921.

Sometimes the wildlife watches me while I’m on my day hike. My themes in this project: Prehistory and Natural History. “I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” John Burroughs 1837 - 1921.

The healing properties of Mullein

Mullein’s Niche. Considered an invasive weed by many, yet revered for its healing qualities by herbalists, the ubiquitous mullein thrives when conditions are just right. For me it is a “friend” that I see on every day hike. My themes in this project: Prehistory and Natural History. “I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” John Burroughs 1837 - 1921.

Pure fresh rain water for animals and humans...

After recent rain storm I went out walking today looking for "water catchments" in the vicinity of San Francisco Wash. Of course I found many, each filled with clear pure rain water. What a valuable item these must have been in prehistory!

Bold images... near water catchments

Then, of course, I also get my reward. For as I meander around following my nose I tripped upon whole new petroglyph panels. I wonder if these are in the official record? There are more so in the near future I'll be doing some follow up in this same area. More shorter walks at this age to accomplish the same thing. Still wonderful! Gardening in the wild... paradise.

Undecorated Gray Potsherd. Amidst abundant wildflowers (probably from the aster family) on a sunny spring morning. Day hike observation. God is my gardener. Stylistic pronghorn antelope? What do you see?

Rock Art…  or rock writing to be more accurate. Translation, please. Seems like monumental statements being made here. What did they witness? What are they recording? Day hike observation. My themes in this project: Prehistory and Natural History. “I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” John Burroughs 1837 - 1921.

Right Before Your Eyes

Under the Juniper Tree. Colorful lichen pattern growing on volcanic basalt outcrops disguises some prehistoric ceramic potsherds. Several natural cycles revealed in this capture. Day hike observation. My themes in this project: Prehistory and Natural History. “I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” John Burroughs 1837 - 1921.
