The winter form of a popular native plant... a favorite of bees.

A winter bouquet of dried flowers… Arizona Bull Thistles. How grand. Available as an art print or note card from my online gallery. Observations near Buffalo Park.

Petroglyph panel revealed by winter

Sometimes native plants, like this wild Oregon Grape vine, conceal prehistoric treasures when fully grown in summer. It pays to revisit some places in winter. Here’s a complete gallery with kokopelli images. Photo opportunities. Enjoy.

Fall colors buried under a mild snow fall

I waterproofed my hiking boots yesterday to make sure that my feet stay dry during today’s day hike. About a half a foot of snow now in the forest at 7000 feet elevation. Many photo opportunities close at hand.

Seasonal cycles, perpetuating each species

More Winter Observations...  Wildflowers are colorful and beautiful. But this isn’t the whole story. Each plant also has an ingenious system for disbursing its seeds. These winter forms have their own sculpture and beauty. For me these are also photo moments. Observations.
